LACO Condemns Attack on Leilon Munlui, Demands Inquiry and Enhanced Security
Leimakhong, June 15: The Leimakhong Area Chiefs' Organisation (LACO) has strongly condemned the alleged attack on Leilon Munlui Village in Kangpokpi district that occurred at around 6:00 AM on June 15, leaving three youths seriously injured.
In a statement issued on Monday, LACO alleged that cadres of NSCN/ZUF were responsible for the attack. The organization identified the injured as 15-year-old student Genlenmang Vaiphei, 18-year-old student Paogoulal, and 20-year-old internally displaced person Lunliandaw Vaiphei. All three victims were reportedly shifted to Imphal for medical treatment.
LACO also expressed concern over reports that a crowd had gathered outside the hospital where the injured youths are being treated, raising fears about their safety and well-being. The organisation urged authorities to take immediate steps to ensure the victims receive medical care in a secure environment.
The chiefs' body further voiced concern over allegations that the attackers entered and exited through the area between Leilon Munlui and Konsakhul, where a CRPF battalion is deployed. LACO also referred to a video circulating on social media that allegedly showed women from Konsa village preventing an Indian Army column from entering the area while allowing only CRPF movement.
According to LACO, these developments raise serious questions that require an immediate and impartial investigation. The organisation called upon both the State and Central Governments to conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident and, pending the findings, consider replacing the concerned CRPF unit with a force capable of restoring public confidence and ensuring the safety of local communities.
Highlighting the broader security concerns faced by the Kuki-Zo community, LACO stated that repeated attacks and continued insecurity over the past three years underscore the need for a lasting political solution. The organisation reiterated its demand for a Separate Administration, which it said would safeguard the security, rights, and dignity of the people.
LACO extended its deepest sympathy to the injured victims and their families and expressed solidarity with the residents of Leilon Munlui Village. The organisation also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured and for lasting peace in the region.
